Welcome - The meeting was called to order by Allyson Small at 9:03 AM. Julie Holt motioned to approve the meeting minutes from March, and Amy Martin seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the motion carried.

President’s Report - Allyson Small discussed all the board members and their positions for the next school year.

Treasurer’s Report - Julie Holt presented the financial statement from March.  Charlena Vollmering motioned to approve the statement, and Tiffany Perry seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the motion carried.

Principle/Administrator’s Report - Dr. Finch and Dan Hollandworth appeared at the meeting. They reported that the food drive raised enough money and Randy Stolle had to dye his beard red, white, and blue. TCAP testing is coming up. The staff is doing daily raffles for the kids, such as if they’re in their seat early, not disruptive, and using the entire test time, they are entered into the pool of prizes. Admin would love some donations to reward them and encourage them to put their best efforts into their TCAP tests. There are 7 days of TCAP testing. In other news, the admin purchased an ice cream machine for the school. Dr. Hollansworth hopes to sell ice cream during fiesta de hornets, and the proceeds will go toward turf management stuff. SRO Spann plans to do the same with his time spent in the dunk tank.

Committee Reports

    • VP of Events - Katie Hundley has no updates. There will be a signup genius posted for volunteers. The 8th Grade Formal is set for May 9th. Tickets will go on sale 2 weeks before the evengt. There have been clues in the 8th Grade newsletters and around campus to describe this year's dance theme.
    • Membership - Crystal had nothing new to report.
    • Hospitality - Beth Dean has planned pizza next Wednesday for teacher appreciation to keep things simple with the testing schedule. She is going to stock up on items for the treat trolley. She will need a couple volunteers to help distribute treats one day each week of TCAP testing. In May, she plans to do games and a retro theme for staff appreciation. She will also request gift card donations to give to the staff at the end of the year.

  • Corporate Sponsors - Amy Martin met with Alex Jimenez and Dan Hollandsworth at the outdoor building. They picked out a sign that will be placed on the building since he was a generous contributor. She also plans to have a small plaque to allow recognition to other significant donors involved.
  • Communications - Gia Rickman is going to work on the 8th Grade Formal “Save the Date” posts and flyers. She will post about Fiesta de Hornets and the rising 6th grade night. Amy also asked her to put together something that can be sent to corporate sponsors to show what their donations have helped with this year.
  • Front Office/Badges - Charlena completed her last badge making day this morning. She plans to train Casey Fortin on making volunteer badges next year because she won’t have a student at HMS after next school year.
  • Copy Room - Nothing new.  The copy room signup link on the HMS PTO Facebook page.
  • Spiritwear/School Supplies - Allyson received the school supply lists for next year. The link is active now. She has the spiritwear link open for rising 6th graders to start ordering. Allyson is going to sort orders when they come in and deliver them to the elementary schools.
  • Beautification - Katherine Ehrhardt has purchased the same flowers that TSMS has in their planters. She plans to have mulch spread in the spring.
  • HMS Athletics - Amanda gave an update to Allyson. She sent out a sign up today to get volunteers to open the concession stand for soccer games. It will be considered a trial period to see if it is successful and worth messing with.
  • Concessions - Amanda Abele reports that concessions opened for one soccer game so far, and it was successful. The track team, baseball team and softball teams were also on campus that same day to benefit concession sales.
  • Lost and Found - Nothing to report.

New Business

  • Dan Hollandsworth thinks the school needs a generator. He has used his personal generator in previous years. Sam’s has a generator for around $500. Harbour Freight has the best deal for a higher watt generator for approximately $700. Beth Dean Dean motioned to approve the funds for the generator. Christine Johnson seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried.
  • Dan Hollandworth is also needing a calibrated spreader to use on the sports fields. Over the winter, he got his commercial chemical license which allows him to purchase the products that will improve the field conditions.
  • Track needs new uniforms, and may request some financial assistance.
  • PE bought a couple scooters, but they are thinking about asking for more.
  • Band has a need for a little extra funding.
  • Madeline White requested $229 for a professional development conference that she can attend virtually. She will have access to all recorded sessions and be able to share with co-workers. Julie Holt motioned to approve funding for Ms. White. Beth Dean seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried.
