Welcome - The meeting was called to order by Allyson Small at 10:03 AM. Julie Holt motioned to approve the meeting minutes from February, and Amy Martin seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the motion carried.

President’s Report - Allyson Small reports having another smooth month. She thanked everyone for their help. She welcomed more new faces at the meeting. She is looking forward to the upcoming 8th Grade shirts and pizza party for the 8th Grade promotion. The storage shed is in progress. Allyson is wanting to plan a ribbon cutting at the end of the year to honor the new building.

Treasurer’s Report - Julie Holt presented the financial statement from February. Beth Dean motioned to approve the statement, and Tiffany Perry seconded the motion. All were in favor, and the motion carried.

Principle/Administrator’s Report - Dr. Finch has student and teacher incentive celebrations planned. May 4th will be a reward day to allow everyone to get outside for using their time wisely during TCAP testing. She is excited about Fiesta de Hornets on May 5th. We have the rising 6th grade night scheduled on May 6th between 5:30-7. Dr. Finch and the PTO discussed what night to host our HMS back to school night, and decided on the following dates August 5th and 6th. We know other schools have back to school nights overlapping, but we are trying to accommodate the best we can. The teachers return to school on Monday, August 3rd. The teachers prefer the time to be 4:30-6:00PM. 6th grade back to school night will be on Wednesday August 5th and 7th/8th graders  back to school night will be on Thursday August 6th.

Committee Reports

    • VP of Events - Katie Hundley shared exciting news about the 8th Grade Formal on May 9th. There is going to be a surprise in the theme this year! The week leading up to the formal, there will be hidden eggs around the school with clues. She's still getting ideas, but it'll be lots of fun for all involved! The 8th graders will vote on 3 different themes, but the result will be a surprise.
    • Membership - Crystal had nothing new to report.
    • Hospitality - Beth Dean planned sandwiches and side items leading into Spring Break on March 6th. It was easy for Beth to organize and appreciated by the staff. She will plan pizza in April to go easy with the testing schedule. She will be doing games and a retro theme for staff appreciation in May.

  • Corporate Sponsors - Amy Martin has nothing new to report.
  • Communications - Gia Rickman continues to post info on the Facebook PTO page.
  • Front Office/Badges - Charlena is in the front office today making badges, and she has the badge making dates posted in the HMS weekly newsletter. There is no badge making date in May.
  • Copy Room - Nothing new.  The copy room signup link on the HMS PTO Facebook page.
  • Spiritwear/School Supplies - Allyson received the school supply lists for next year. It is ready to be added to the weekly newsletter, and they will be for sale until June 15th. It may be extended, too. The supplies will be delivered to the students home. Allyson plans to open the spirit store, and have the items arrive for pickup during Rising 6th Grade Night versus having them dropped off at the coordinating elementary schools.
  • Beautification - Katherine Ehrhardt plans to update the planters in the front of the school in April so no flowers are killed in the last freeze.
  • HMS Athletics - Amanda gave an update to Allyson. She sent out a sign up today to get volunteers to open the concession stand for soccer games. It will be a trial period to see if it is successful and worth messing with.
  • Concessions - Amanda Abele reports that concessions are doing well. She needs to know if we will try to do concession sales for soccer. She will make a signup sheet, and see how it goes.
  • Lost and Found - Nothing to report.

New Business

  • Madeline White spoke on behalf of the teachers and staff. In the past, the teachers enjoyed Sonic drinks. They enjoy going outside and walking during study halls, but they also appreciate volunteers covering their study halls. She mentioned the “treat trolley.” She suggested an elevated treat trolley with Dots pretzels and high end snacks, Alani, Celsius. They love personalized notes of recognition.
  • PTO will provide drinks and coverage for study hall for staff members with incentives.
  • Mrs. Newman is requesting $145 to cover an orchestra conference for her to attend. Julie Holt motioned to approve the PTO funding to Mrs. Newman, and Charlena Vollmerig seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried.
  • Michelle Ross is asking for money/donations for Mrs. Spangenberg to give to the Mini Mu participants. It is only a minimal amount, so no vote is needed.
  • Ms. Fischer is asking for volunteers for the STEM fair on April 11th from 8-4. She needs 3-4 people every 2 hours. We can try to organize some volunteers.
  • May 18th is the date for the senior walk-thru at HMS. We may want a volunteer to help with the flow of people and traffic.
  • Randy Stolle may be requesting PTO funds for a design (pudding cups) to go along the fence that will be separating the two sports fields. He is thinking soccer ball design, football, or something not involving letters since it's double-sided.
